Biography

Started playing guitar after being inspired by the climactic final scenes of “back to the future” at age 8.  Has not questioned the wisdom of this career decision yet.

Was exposed at an early age to Capitan Beefheart and via Mr. Bungle, John Zorn.  Started playing double bass, and played jazz at a lot of hotels in high school.  Found that he preferred Improvising or Composing to “playing jazz.”  A classmate told him “…you’ll never get it unless you listen to ‘trane.”  Bought Meditations, and discovered he much enjoyed the “free jazz”.  Played in a band called “poignant plecostomus” that sounded a little like mahavishnu orchestra, but weirder, and slower.  Joined Larval and helped Bill write the songs.  Played in Hearing From the Gap, the Blindspot trio, and did a lot of improvising.  Joined Crush Kill Destroy, moved to Chicago.  Continued to play rock music, and improvised music, and the things in between.  Every so often, he convenes the very large band “never enough hope” so he can have all his friends around to play music with him.
